This week the Holy Spirit would be leading us to understand the Servants of God, the Living Wonders. Last week, He challenged our hearts and stirred us up to love God like never before. To posture ourselves as lovers, and today He wants to show us how the servants of God are living wonders. We are going to start by looking at Psalm 104:4, this Scripture was also repeated in Hebrews 1:7, But we are going to read Psalm 104 and verse 4. The Bible says; I will love to read from verse 1 so that we understand the background or the context in which this word came. Bless the Lord O my soul, O Lord my God you are very great; you are clothed with honor and majesty.
Now David was describing the wonderfulness of God. So, he started by saying “O Lord my God, you are very great, you are clothed with honor and majesty, who cover yourself with light as with a garment. Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain! Is it not wonderful? God is the one that covers Himself with light as a garment. And He stretch out the heavens like a curtain. He lays the beams of His upper chambers in the waters. Is that not wonderful? Who made the clouds His chariots! That’s our God. So, when we are talking about pleasant wonders the Lord wants to deliver, you cannot separate the workings of God from His person! So, the person of God gives us a clue into what He does. If for example, somebody calls you a kind person, and you now do an act of kindness, it is out of your fullness, that you did it.
One of the names that Jesus was prophesied to be called is wonderful. It says; His name shall be called wonderful. That’s His name, that’s who He is, He is wonderful. Wonders are closely associated with God. God is a God of wonder and David here was describing the wonder of God, he said; who makes the clouds His chariots? Who walks on the wings of the wind? That’s God, that’s our God. So, when God is talking to you about wonders quickly look at His person, so that you understand the degree of the wonders God is talking about. Because God will not do wonders that are beneath Him. God works in accordance with who He is.
God will not deny Himself, so when God is talking about wonders, please see it in the degree of God. The wonders God is talking about is in His degree, not to the degree of man but in the degree of God. It says who walks on the wings of the wind, who makes His angels spirits? So, God makes His Angels spirits, His ministers a flame of fire. Still speaking of the wonders of God in verse 5, it says You laid the foundations of the earth, so that it should not be moved forever. Have you seen the ground under our feet for any reason? It says God laid the foundations. It can’t move.
It says you cover it with the deep as with a garment, the waters stood above the mountains, talking about the wonders of God. But our focus is in verse 4. It says Who makes? God makes; so, when God is talking about us becoming pleasant wonders, it is not what we will make, it is what He will make, He will make you, you will become in the hands of God, not in your own hands, but in the hands of God, not by your own strength. So, when we are talking about the servants of God becoming living wonders, it’s the servant of God, in the hands of God becoming. He makes them, God makes men. From Genesis 1 that God created man, in chapter two He made man, God is in the business of making men.
He makes His angels spirit, His ministers a flame of fire. So, this attest to us that the ministers of God, another translation calls them the servants of God, they are flames of fire, He makes them. God makes His servants and it says here in verse 4 that He makes them flames of fire. Now we want to look at who are the servants of God? These men and women that God make flames of fire, who are they? How do we describe them? How do they emerge? What posture do they take?
Acts 17:6, we want to see a description of the servants of God. Let me read from verse 5. "But the Jews who were not persuaded, becoming envious, took some of the evil men from the marketplace, and gathering a mob, set all the city in an uproar and attacked the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. 6 But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, “These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.” The description of the servants of the Lord described in this verse is “these are the people that have turned the world upside-down” do they look like normal people? No!
They said these men, we have heard how they scattered the whole place. From where they were coming from, they have come here too. Why did they describe them like this? The people started to shout; these are the men. There was something about these men that were different from the other men. Servants of God are not usual people, they are unusual people. And that is why when we read that place in Psalm 104:4, it says; Go makes His angels spirits, and His servants, His ministers, flame of fire. When you see somebody burning, the person is not normal, the person is not usual, the person is unusual. Servants of God are characterized by their unusual nature of being fire. They come into a place and they affect the place.
That’s why that verse talked about them, it says; “these are the men who have turned” they come into a place and affect the place. Jesus was speaking about the description as who we are as servants of God, He said; You are the light of the world, you get into a place where there is darkness, light shines; people begin to see. You are the salt of the earth; you get into a situation and you give it flavor. These are the qualities of the servants of God, unusual people. The Bible speaking in Isaiah 60, it says arise and shine for thy light is come, for the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. Darkness covers the earth; that is the usual, and Gross darkness the people, but you the servants of God, the light of the Lord arises over you, the glory of the Lord is seen in you. Because God has made you a flame of fire.
So, you are different, servants of God are unusual. That’s why you will see people like Elijah, when other people were conforming to the status-quo, this man was an unusual man, he always had problem with the king. Because He is unusual. When others are saying go up and prosper, he will say to the face of the king, this is what the Lord has said; the Lord has said; before whom I stand. He is a servant, a flame of fire. The servants of God are unusual, they are flames of fire. He makes them. They are ministers of the Lord.
I want us to see Daniel 3:26. “Then Nebuchadnezzar went near the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and spoke, saying, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego servants of the most-high God” Did we see that? Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego! I am sure some of us are familiar with that story, there came a time when this pompous king called nebuchadnezzar, erected an image and he told all the people, I have erected this, I am your king, come and bow. Remember that Babylon was a place of captivity for the children of Israel. So, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego where not the only Israelite in Babylon, they were part of the Israelites in Babylon. But the Bible recording in this verse, said that “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego” out of all the Israelites at Babylon at that time, refused to bow. Unusual people! And they saw the punishment live, see the fire- scorching burning fire, so much so that those that wanted to throw them in, died instantly. But these unusual people, see what the king called them, servants of the Lord.
Let us continue; “servants of the Most-High God, come out, and come here.” Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego came from the midst of the fire.” The came out of the fire because God has made them flames of fire- fire of the earth had no power over them. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego servants of the most-high, why did they call them servants of the most-high, was it because they were preaching all over Babylon? No! They were representatives of God. While others were conforming, to the Babylonian lifestyle, they were representing God. So, servants of God are not just ministers like Aaron, like Moses. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were testified as servants of the Lord why? They represented God. Servants of God are representatives of God and God makes them flames of fire.
In the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, the Bible records that while they were in the fire, the king’s eye was open in the spirit and he saw four instead of three walking, and the fourth one he said, His appearance was like the son of man. How did he know? He made His angels spirits and His ministers flames of fire because servants of God are ministers. His ministers, flames of fire. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego became flames of fire. Who are the servants of God?
Servants of God Are Ambassadors of The Lord
Amos 3:7. “surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secrets to His servants the prophets” Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophet. So, servants are ambassadors. Will America want to do something in Nigeria and will not tell the US ambassador to Nigeria? No! he is aware, why? Because he is the ambassador. God said in Amos 3:7, surely the Lord will do nothing, except He reveals them. Abraham was an ambassador and a servant of God on the earth. In Psalm 105:6, and Psalm 42. It says Abraham the servant of the Lord. When God wanted to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, God was coming to Abraham’s region, and God paid Abraham a visit first. And He said will I do this thing and not reveal it to Abraham, My servant, My friend, since he will become a great nation. Since he is an ambassador, we can’t go on this mission without telling the ambassadors. And this is what qualifies them to become living wonders. What the world is ignorant of, God reveals it to His servants.
When Jesus was walking on the face of the earth, He said as I hear My Father say, I say, as I see Him do, I do. the Bible talks about Jesus being the brightness of the glory of God, the express image. Ambassadors carry the authority of their government. So, servants of God are ambassadors. They say what God says; they do what God does. It is about representing the government; it is about representing the master. That qualifies them for living wonders. In exodus 14:31, “Thus Israel saw the great work which the Lord had done in Egypt. So, the people feared the Lord, and believed the Lord and His servant Moses”
Israel saw the great work; did they see God physically? No! they saw the great work. God working through His ambassadors. There are several things the US does in Nigeria; missions, US AID etc. and their present president is Donald Trump. Do you see Donald Trump coming to Nigeria to do them? How does He do them? Through the ambassador. So, their security, intelligence community, everything is within the embassy. So, servants of God are ambassadors. Nothing happens in their territory without the king telling them. And that’s why you will see the servants of God, from the old testament to the new, were men and women of the spirit.
They were connected directly to the head-quarters. That is why a man called Elijah can declare that there won’t be rain for three and a half years and he will come again and go and pray and what he will see is a cloud like the hand of a man, and he knows that rain will fall. And he will tell king Ahab; fasten your chariot it’s going to rain. How did he know? He is an ambassador. God responds because He makes them flames of fire. See the audacity that Elijah had, because of his confidence in the One that sent him. That’s why he will always say; The God before whom I stand, I am a servant of my Master. And he would say you know what let’s do a contest, let us know who the true God is; I know who I believe, call Baal, if Baal is God worship him, but if my God responds; because God will always respond to His servant. And that’s why we saw that Elijah called fire and God called fire that consumed stones. Why? He is a servant of the Lord. God made him a living wonder. God makes His servants.
Servants Are Workers in God’s Field
The servants of the Lord are workers, they work for God, they represent God. In Exodus 7:1. “so the Lord said to Moses; see, I have made you a god to pharaoh and Aaron your brother shall be your prophet. You shall speak all that I command you, and Aaron your brother shall tell Pharaoh to send the children of Israel out of his land” And the Lord said to Moses, see, ‘I have made you’. So, you see that the Lord makes His servants. What did God make Moses to be? A worker in His field. The field of God at the time was Egypt, and God told Moses to go and work it. All these things I Am telling you, go and work it. If you remember the story of Moses very well, how he was going about taking care of the sheep of his father in-law, and he was attracted to a sight that God had put in his path, and he turned to see the great sight, and God started talking to him, and God started to telling him what He wants to do. God said My field right now is Egypt, I have heard the cry of My people, I have seen their afflictions, how the Egyptians oppress them; now I want to move My sight, My field to Egypt what we are going to do there is deliverance, so you are My worker in that field. And so, God told Moses to go and told him what to do. What was Moses doing for God? working!
God will say stand up I have hardened the heart of Pharaoh, such an interesting story, go tell him this, he will not listen but tell him. And tell him this is what I will do because he did not listen. And he will go and say it. What is he doing? Working! He will wake up in the morning to do what God ask him to do. is that not a worker? That’s a worker. The Bible says we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, we are servants. That is why Apostle Paul will say; I, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, the servant of the Lord. Because I am a worker in His field. Jesus speaking about the field, He said the harvest in the field is ripe, pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers, workers, to His field. So, when you serve the Lord, you are a worker in His field, and God makes you a living wonder. He said I have made you as a god, pharaoh won’t be able to wrap his hand around it.
He said what do you have in your hand? Rod, don’t worry you will use this rod to do wonders. And you will see the wonders God was doing with the rod of Moses. The rod didn’t come from heaven, He made the rod, because He made the servant. And he will throw the rod it becomes a snake, and he will pick it up again, it becomes stick. God shows His wonders through His servants. So, when you serve the Lord, He makes you a living wonder. So how do you serve Him, you be His ambassador, you be His minister, you become an unusual person on the earth, allow God to make you an unusual being, a flame of fire. You become a worker in His hands.
Servants Are Bearers of God’s Burden
In Luke 1:38, the Bible says: “Then Mary said, “behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her”
Then Mary said behold I am a maid servant of the Lord. God came to Mary, interrupted her journey, and said to May, I have an assignment, I have a burden for the people of the earth. I want to send them a savior, I want to send them a messiah. And God said to Mary, through you I want to birth a savior. A woman that knows no man. The Angel said the Lord will come upon you and the Spirit of the Lord will overshadow you, and what will be born of you shall be holy a child of the living God. do you think it was easy for Mary? No! it wasn’t. for nine months she was bearing the burden of God. Jesus was not her child; Jesus was the Son of God. Mary was bearing that child for God. So, servants of God are bearers of God’s burden. You can’t be a servant of God and you are not willing to bear His burden.
There was a prophet called Hosea, Hosea became a burden bearer for the Lord. God told him, Hosea My servant, I want you to go and Marry a harlot. Does it not sound funny? It was something shameful, similar to what happened to Mary? Disgraceful! But what was He doing? God wanted to show a wonder on the earth. And he had to be the bearer of that burden. So, he married a harlot, the woman will misbehave and go and come back and God will say receive her. That was his life, a life of bearing burden. Jesus our Lord and savior was also a servant, the Bible says He learnt obedience by the things He suffered. He was bearing the burden of the Lord. No wonder in the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus said I wish this cup can pass over Me, nevertheless not My will but Yours be done. And the Bible said because of what He did, God gave Him a name that is above every other name. He became a living wonder; He became a flame of fire. At the mention of the name of Jesus every knew bows, every tongue confesses.
As we enter into the new year, this is the posture God wants us to take, be a lover of God, be a servant of God. And this is what it takes to be a servant of God, you are a minister; an unusual minister of the Lord, a representative of the Lord, an ambassador, a worker in God’s field, a bearer of God’s burden. Isaiah 40:31 “But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
Servants of God Are Waiters on The Lord
You can’t serve God without waiting on him. God can’t make you into a flaming fire if you don’t wait on Him. And the Bible says that, but those who wait, those who serve the Lord by waiting on Him shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles. They shall be living wonders. They will run. The normal thing is to run and be tired and be weary but God said, they will run and they will not be weary. They shall walk and not faint. This is the life of the servants of the Lord because they are waiters on God. What are they doing? They are waiting.
Lord, what will You have me do? Where will You have me go? What will You have me say? What will You have me do? Those are waiters. They are not about, Lord what will You give to me? Lord, can’t You see that I need this? No! Waiters on God are men and women that serve God in the posture of waiting on Him, expecting what He will say to them. He said, “I will stand on my watch. I will put myself on my rampart watch to see what He will say to me and what I will respond with, when He corrects” (Habakkuk 2:1). Those are waiters. They are servants of the Lord. This is the posture that God wants us to take as we move into the new year. Waiters on the Lord; they wait on the Lord.
Servants Are Lovers of The Lord
They are lovers. They love the Lord with all of their heart, with all of their strength, with all of their mind, they are lovers. They just love on God. They have the characteristics of love in 1st Corinthians 13. They believe all things. They bear all things. They believe all things; they trust the Lord. They are lovers. They seek and worship God in Spirit and in truth. They are lovers. Servants of God are lovers.
Servants Are Carriers of God’s Spirit
Acts 19:11-12. “Now God worked unusual miracles by the hands of Paul, 12 so that even handkerchiefs or aprons were brought from his body to the sick, and the diseases left them, and the evil spirits went out of them.” God worked unusual miracles because God made them unusual ministers. Unusual, not normal, not common place. It said, by the hands of Paul, “so that even handkerchiefs,” the fire of God penetrates into material substances and God use it to flow his healing virtue into people; healing virtue. “Or aprons were taken from his body to the sick and diseases left them, and evil spirits went out of them,” Why? because they are carriers of God’s Spirit. Servants of God carry His Spirit. Jesus said, a servant cannot be greater than his master. If you serve God, you walk in the dimension of God’s power because you carry His Spirit. If you continue reading from Acts 19:13, the Bible talks about some exorcists, they wanted to try. They are not servants of God. God had not made them into flames of fire but they wanted to come and try what was happening but see verse 15; And the evil spirit answered the exorcists and said Jesus I know, He is the son of God and Paul I know, he is a servant of God, who are you?
So, the question is, who are you? Are you a servant of God? Has the Lord made you into a flame of fire? When challenges come, when obstacles come, when the storms come, when the winds blow, who are you? Are you a servant of God? Because that’s what qualifies you to become a living wonder. The evil spirit said to them, you want to become living wonder, exorcists? Do you serve the Lord? Do you know the Lord? Who are you? Servants of God are carriers of God’s Spirit.
Servants Are Executors of God’s Agenda
Acts 3:1-11 “Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. 2 And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms from those who entered the temple; 3 who, seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked for alms. 4 And fixing his eyes on him, with John, Peter said, “Look at us.” 5 So, he gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them. 6 Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I have I give to you: in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” 7 And he took him up by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately, his feet and ankle bones received strength. 8 So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them-walking, leaping and praising God. 9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God. 10 Then they knew that it was he who sat begging alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple; and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. 11 Now as the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran to them in the porch which is called Solomon’s, greatly amazed.”
Servants of God; Peter and John, they went up together to the temple. It was a normal day. From the story, you will see the man had always been there but this was a day that God wanted to show His power and his agenda for mankind and as they were going, they say the man. The man looked at them expecting to receive something. And they looked at him, “we don’t transact in silver and gold. Silver and gold that you are expecting to receive from us, we don’t have to give you. That’s not the nature of our transaction. But such as we have, we are executors of God’s agenda. We have something that you need. You don’t even know your need. God knows it. Such as we have, we give to you. In the name of Jesus, rise up and walk.” And the man that had been there for years, rose up and walked. Even though he had been at the temple, even though he had been at the house of God, he had not received from God. There are people that have been around God, the things of God, the places of God but they have not received from God. And God is saying that this is the nature of what He wants to do, as we go into 2021.
We serving Him as an executor of His agenda. What is it that God wants to do? What is it that God is saying? It is not business as usual. The man had always been there. The Pharisees had passed, the Sadducees had passed. All of them, they had read the Torah from morning till night, but the agenda of God for the life of that man had not come to pass until the servants of God, Peter and John came to execute that agenda.
God is raising us up as living wonders not to decorate the church, not to decorate our streets, not to decorate our environment but to become living wonders, living proofs that He exists. He said, those that worship God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder. Those that come to God must believe that He is, that He is a wonderful God and He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him. You can’t serve God and not serve His agenda. You can’t serve God and not execute His agenda. That’s why you see all the servants of God from Genesis to Revelation, they are executors of God’s agenda. You can’t say you are serving God and you can’t execute his agenda. What is in the heart of God? Concerning that person next to you, concerning that person that God has placed around you, what is the agenda of God for that life? Are you interested? Are you ready to partner with God as His unusual minister, as His representative, as His ambassador, as a worker in His field, as a bearer of His burden, as a waiter on the Lord? What it also means is that are you willing to be God’s errand boy? Are you willing to be called God’s errand girl? And God can say to you, rise up, go and you will go. Sit down and you will sit. How many of us are willing? To serve God is to be able to serve his agenda. And God is willing to make you into a flame of fire.
Jeremiah said, your word is like fire shut up in my bones, I can’t keep quiet. I can’t sit still. I can’t just be looking morose. I can’t look as if all is well. I can’t look as if nothing is happening. No! God spoke concerning Job. He told the devil, “have you considered my servant Job, that there is no man like him? He loves righteousness, he eschews evil. He serves me. He represents me.” When people see him, they can see what I look like. When people see him, they can see who his master is. Is that the same thing with our lives, can people look at us and see God?
The Bible recording concerning Solomon, when the Queen of Sheba came to his kingdom. In fact, the queen of Sheba fainted at the sight of his servants. You know, the glory that Solomon had was not just a glory of the king. It reflected on everything that he had. The Bible records concerning how his servants were dressing, the excellence of their character. The woman fainted that what is this, what kind of picture is this, can this really happen on the earth?
How much more we, as we have made up our minds to serve the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords? Will He not decorate our lives, crown our lives with glory and honor because our lives must reflect Him as we represent Him. God does not treat His servants shabbily, No! God decorates His servants. He makes you into a flame of fire.
I pray that as the Lord is preparing and stirring our hearts, as we enter into the new year to become lovers, as servants, that he will help us and strengthen us to walk into all that he has for us in the name of Jesus.
