In this article we will be looking at something important. I perceive that the Lord wants to bring us into reminder of how important this subject is. We are looking at The Mountain of His Holiness. And we are going to start from Psalm 48 verse 1 and 2. “Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.” In the King James version, it calls it the mountain of His holiness. Beautiful in elevation, this is the description of the Mountain. It says; Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. We are going to look at several scriptures tat would be making reference to two things that we are seeing from this Psalm 48 verse 1 to 2.
Number one is His Holy on CentreNDL”>Holy mountain. Another word is the mountain of his holiness. Then mount Zion. What is the importance of mount Zion? It said mount Zion, on the sides of the north, it is the city of the great King. How does this have to do with us as disciples? What is the importance of mount Zion to us? Why is mount Zion very symbolic in our walk with the Lord? Why is mount Zion such an important mount that we must especially in this end time pay particular attention to as disciples of Christ. We are going to go to another Scripture in Joel 2. We will read verse 1 and 2 then we will read chapter 3 verse 17.
Joel 2 verse 1-2 says; “Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my Holy on CentreNDL”>Holy mountain: Every time God talks about Zion, He calls it the same name; my Holy on CentreNDL”>Holy mountain. It says blow the trumpet in Zion, not elsewhere. Blow the trumpet in Zion and sound an alarm upon my Holy on CentreNDL”>Holy mountain let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand; 2 A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.”
Let us also look at Joel 3 verse 17. It says; “So shall ye know that I am the Lord your God dwelling in Zion, [that is my habitation], my Holy on CentreNDL”>Holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be Holy on CentreNDL”>Holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more.” Now we have read 3 different Scriptures; Psalm 48, we have read Joel 2, we have read Joel chapter 3 and God is referring to the same thing, He is using the same words to describe Zion. He said blow the trumpet in Zion, sound the alarm on my Holy on CentreNDL”>Holy mountain. There is something that keeps an attraction between Zion and God.
In our private time we can go back and find out in scriptures, there is no time that Zion is mentioned that holiness is not mentioned. There is no time that Zion is mentioned that God does not give us a picture that there is a personal affinity between Him and Zion. So, in this article, we want to look at the mountain of holiness. Mount Zion. What created that kind of affinity between God and Zion? What lessons can we draw as disciples of Jesus from that place called Zion and how symbolic is that Zion to our own present walk with the Lord?
I want to share a Scripture with us again in Psalm 125 and verse 1. It says; “Those who trust in the Lord are like mount Zion.” So, you see where there is a relationship between us and Zion? Mount Zion is a place called the Holy on CentreNDL”>Holy mountain of God. The habitation of God, where God dwells. But there is something for us in mount Zion, it says those who trust in the Lord, are like mount Zion.
When you see the word ‘like’ it means that there is a relationship between the subject and the object. So, for example there is something called simile in literal words; When you use simile, you use the word ‘as’ or ‘like’ to create a relationship between one thing and the other. So, there is a relationship between those who trust in the Lord and mount Zion. It says those who trust in the Lord are like mount Zion. Which cannot be moved. Mount Zion cannot be moved. If you are looking at the characteristics of mount Zion; mount Zion cannot be moved but abides forever. The Scripture is now making us to understand that there is a relationship between us and mount Zion. What is mount Zion or how can we describe mount Zion? It is a mountain that cannot be moved. So, those that put their trust in God, that have decided to follow the Lord Jesus, those that have put their believe, that have reposed their confidence in Jesus, as their Lord and savior, are those who trust in the Lord.
The Bible makes us to understand that how we come to Jesus is by believing in our hearts and we confess with our mouth the Lord Jesus and we are saved. So, what happens in that process is that we have chosen to trust Him. That’s why we qualify in this Psalm 125 verse 1. Another word we can use there is those that have believed in Jesus. Those that have decided to walk with Jesus. There is a relationship between their lives and mount Zion. It said they are like mount Zion; they cannot be moved but they will abide forever. Can we now look closely, since we now see the relationship between our lives and mount Zion. Can we now zero-in on mount Zion and find out more about this mount Zion.
Let us go to another Scripture in Psalm 132 verse 13-14. As this disciple of Jesus, we are students of the word and we must pay attention to what the word is communicating to us. The Scripture says; “13 For the Lord hath chosen Zion; [we are still looking at mount Zion, the relationship between us as disciples of Jesus and mount Zion] It says; “For the Lord has chosen Zion, He hath desired it for his dwelling place.” Talking about that Zion; it says this is my resting place forever. It is for some time? No! it says forever. It says here I will dwell for I have desired it.
The Bible says those that put their trust in the Lord, the Lord has chosen them. How do I know this? Turn with me to 1 Peter 2 verse 9. It says; “But you are a chosen generation; where we read in Psalms says for the Lord has chosen Zion. Those that put their trust in the Lord are like mount Zion. Here it says; you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a Holy on CentreNDL”>Holy nation; Did you see Holy on CentreNDL”>Holy there? His own special people, He has desired you. The words are the same if you are going to look at them closely, psalm 132 and 1 Peter 2. It says you are a special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”
So, number one; we are looking at mount Zion. Just as mount Zion is a desired nation, a desired place, a desired habitation; So is our lives as disciples of Jesus. The Lord has chosen us. Why has He chosen us? Because we have trusted Him. Why is God saying mount Zion will be my dwelling place? He called it His Holy on CentreNDL”>Holy Mountain. Because you are a Holy on CentreNDL”>Holy nation, God will make His dwelling with you. That is why Jesus was saying in revelations, He said behold I stand at the door and I am knocking. He said whosoever will open; Because what happens when you open is that you have chosen to trust who is at the door.
You trust who is at the door because you trust that the person is not coming in to rob you. You are sure the person is not coming in to destroy you. It is trust that will make you open the door. Let us look at it in our contemporary times. Somebody knocks at the door of your house; do you open the door? You don’t trust the person; do you open the door? The reason you and I open the door of our hearts to Jesus is because we have chosen to trust. And that’s why that Psalm 125 is so relevant. It says; Those that trust in the Lord. Those that trust in the Lord are those that have opened the door of their heart to the Lord. And having opened the door of your heart to the Lord, there is a person you must become.
Mount Zion is our destiny in Christ, mount Zion is our destination. If you want to know what you will be like; the Bible says when He is revealed, we will be like Him. If you want to know what you will be like, you will be like mount Zion. Those that put their trust in God are like mount Zion. When you are like mount Zion, you are a chosen generation. You are a royal priesthood, a Holy on CentreNDL”>Holy nation, His own special people. If you go back to Psalm 48 that we read, there are two significant things we read about mount Zion. It says it is beautiful in elevation. Once you have given your life to Christ, you are operating differently.
The Bible says you are now seated with Christ; not in lowly places, but in heavenly places. And the Bible quickly makes us to understand that lowly places is not in the depth of the earth. God said in Isaiah 55, as high as the heaven is above the earth, so that you will understand that the heaven is high. So, when you are seated with Christ in the heavenly places, you are seated with Christ in the high places. That is why it is described as mount Zion; the mount of His holiness, it is beautiful in elevation. It is an elevated place. As a disciple of Jesus, you are elevated by the virtue of your trust in the Lord.
That’s why 1 Peter 2 verse 9 says He has translated us, He has migrated us, He has moved us out of the low places, out of the miry clay, out of the mud, and now He has set us among princes. We are now seated with Christ. And when you are seated with Christ, it is a beautiful place of elevation. I don’t know what is going on in your life as a disciple of Jesus, but if only you can see your spiritual position, you will not mind your physical position. That’s what Apostle Paul saw and he said though our outward man perishes yet our inward man is renewed day after day.
He said I know a man whether in the flesh or in the Spirit who was caught up. It takes trusting in the Lord to be caught up. You can’t be in the mud and be caught up. In the book of revelation John said I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day. And I was taken, and I heard a voice; come up thither. We need to understand as disciples of Jesus that we have a spiritual positioning in Christ. It is called the place of beautiful elevation you are seated with Christ. This is the truth. You are seated with Christ; you are like mount Zion. You cannot be moved. Why? Because Jesus cannot be moved. You are in a beautiful place of elevation with Christ. That’s number one.
Number two: in that Psalms 48 we read, it called mount Zion the joy of the whole earth. So, you are not just beautiful in elevation, you are also going to become the joy of the whole earth. How do I know this? I want us to see Isaiah chapter 2 verse 2 to 4. How do we become the joy of the whole earth like mount Zion? Isaiah 2 verse 2 to 4. Let us see a description of mount Zion. It says;
“Now it shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the Lord’s house [mount Zion] shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations; [not some nations, it says all nations] shall flow to it.3 Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths. “For out of Zion [that place, the mountain of the Lord, the mountain of holiness, out of it] shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.4 He shall judge between the nations, and rebuke many people; they shall beat their swords into plow shares, and their spears into pruning [a]hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.
Mount Zion is the joy of the whole earth. Where people find joy is where they find solutions and answers. And that’s why in Isaiah 2 it says out of Zion shall go forth the law. With law comes order. And the word of the Lord the solution from Jerusalem. So, if we are like mount Zion, then we are also destined in Christ to be the joy of the whole earth. We have a destination in Christ where we are not just beautiful in elevation, but we are also the joy of the whole earth.
How do we become the Joy of the whole earth? Obadiah 1 verse 17. “But on mount Zion, there shall be deliverance and there shall be holiness.” You cannot talk about mount Zion and not talk about holiness. What makes mount Zion the dwelling place of God is because the Holy on CentreNDL”>Holy God does not dwell in an unHoly place. For God to make It a habitation, then that place must be able to accommodate His person. And that’s why Jesus is saying be Holy on CentreNDL”>Holy as your Father in heaven is Holy on CentreNDL”>Holy. God is seeking a habitation. On the earth God is seeking a habitation. And God will not just in the name of seeking habitation dwell any where else. Because there is no other place to stay let me just manage.
Gods’ standard does not fall. He doesn’t change it for anyone. For you to be the habitation of God, you must be Holy on CentreNDL”>Holy. What is found in Zion is what qualifies for the presence of God. There shall be deliverance and there shall be holiness and what happens is that the house of Jacob shall possess their possession, there will be solution, inheritances will be shared on mount Zion. And that is who you and I must become. That is our destination in Christ. That’s why Jesus said all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
And He said I give you authority to trample upon snakes and scorpions; and all the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Why? Because you have become the dwelling lace of God. In Revelations the Bible says the Lamb was slain to receive glory, honor, strength, riches, wisdom for us. So, when you become a child of God, when you become those that put their trust in the Lord, you have become also like your Lord and master. The Bible says when a servant is perfect, he will become just like his master.
That means every thing Jesus is; you will become. He said as I am, so are you. He is talking about you. So, if Jesus appropriate inheritances to people, remember Jesus was saying to the pharisees, while they were accusing Him of healing a woman whose back was bent over on the sabbath day, He said do you want this daughter of Abraham to continue to suffer? She has an inheritance in Abaraham and I have come to appropriate that inheritance to her, healing is the children’s bread.
The reason why you and I will fall short of the glory of God is when we refuse to become mount Zion. The reason why you and I will live less of the expectation of heaven over our life is if we refuse to be mount Zion. Mount Zion is that lace that is beautiful in elevation. But that is not all, mount Zion is the joy of the whole earth. Your life and my life must become the joy of the whole earth. Enough of praying bread and butter prayers. Enough of praying prayers that is for me, myself and I. It is time we take up the baton of kingdom. Mount Zion is where God dwells.
I want to show us a Scripture in Micah 4 verse 1 to 3. “Now it shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and peoples shall flow to it.” [It’s the same thing that we read in Isaiah 2. It was repeated by prophet Micah. The reason I turned to it is because once He has spoken, twice have I heard, that power belongs to God.] when God keeps repeating the same thing, there is something He is driving at. When Jesus speaks and He says verily, verily I say to you, take that matter very seriously.
Because He is not one given to repetition. If you read the words of Jesus, He does not repeat things. But when He now gets to a point and says very, very I say unto you, He saying assuredly without any shadow of doubt. What I am saying to you is too important to ignore. So, Isaiah said it, Micah said it; that we must learn to stand that the mountain of the Lord’s house, nations will flow to it. Its not a joke. It will happen. In fact, its already happening. We are in the time and period of the fulfilment of prophecy. Why? Jesus has come, He has died, He has risen, He has ascended, now He is seated. We honor and glorify the resurrected Christ, the glorified Christ.
The testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of prophecy. The Bible says and Jesus opened the book and He read what was written concerning Him. He said this prophecy has hereby been fulfilled in your hearing. In Christ Jesus, all prophecies are fulfilled. If your life is in Christ, you are a fulfillment of prophecy. If I am in Christ, I am a fulfillment of prophecy. That’s why the prophecy concerning mount Zion is not just talking about a physical place, it is talking about you and I. mount Zion is both a place and a person. And we must understand it.
The Bible says till we all come to the unity of the faith, to the knowledge of God and to the fullness of the stature of Christ. And what comes to my Spirit when we come to the fullness of the stature of Christ is that Christ is not just a person, Christ is the word. So, when the Bible says till we all come to the fullness of the stature of Christ, it is saying till we all come to the fullness of the word. Meaning that every word that has been Scripted, every one of them has been fulfilled. We can’t see Him. That’s why we must understand that the prophecies Jesus stepped into on our behave we must also step into in Him.
I am going to conclude with Isaiah 25 verse 6 to 9. “And in this mountain, the Lord of hosts will make for all people, a feast of [c]choice pieces, a feast of [d]wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of well-refined wines on the lees.7 And He will destroy on this mountain the surface of the covering cast over all people, and the veil that is spread over all nations.” That is why on the last day, everybody will look at Jesus and say Lord. Why? This prophecy is fulfilled. All those that have despised Him, all those that say who gave birth to Jesus? Who is His Father, who is His mother? When this Scripture is fulfilled, it said God will destroy on this mountain the surface of the covering cast. Meaning that there is a covering cast over the people and a veil that is spread over all the nations. Verse 8 says;
He will swallow up death forever, [nobody can die again] and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces; The rebuke of His people and He will take away from all the earth; For the Lord has spoken.9 And it will be said in that day: “Behold, this is our God; We have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the Lord; We have waited for Him; We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.” Where do we wait? Mount Zion is the place.
That’s why we said mount Zion is both a place and a person. We wait for Him on mount Zion. What are we waiting for? For the fulfillment of prophecies. There are many things that we don’t need to do. Prophecies will be fulfilled. The role of Noah was to build the ark. Trust God and build the ark. Noah was not going to bring the rain. God said I will destroy the earth with rain; how and when the rain will fall is not for Noah to work it out. That is in the sovereignty of God. And that is why as believers, we should not concentrate on the audacity of the devil but of the sovereignty of God.
God is God irrespective of what the devil is doing. Right now, death is parading itself, but the Bible says; a time is coming where death will be swallowed up forever. So, there is a positioning that God wants you and I to have as disciples of Jesus. Jesus said in Acts 1, tarry here in Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on-high. And in chapter 2 the Bible says when the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all gathered together, all they need to do was to tarry as He has said. When they were not going to produce the fire or the wind, they were not asked to find somewhere and position themselves so that the wind will blow stronger. No! when the time came, prophecy was fulfilled. And that is why we must understand that the God we walk with is spiritual.
What we need is to prepare a Spiritual resting place for God. When you prepare a spiritual resting place for God, then wait for Him where He is. Wait on God in the quietness of your heart. He said behold we have waited; those that are saying it have truly waited. And that was why when Jesus was speaking about the parable of the 10 virgins, He made us to understand that we need to wait. Because He was sending a symbolic message to us, He said the 10 virgins where gong to meet the bride groom and the Bible says and the bride groom tarried. And they waited. But while they were waiting, some were waiting on mount Zion. Some were waiting elsewhere. It said there were five foolish virgins, they truly came with lamps, but there was no extra oil.
It is not all of us that can wait for the kind of period that the bride groom will tarry with. And that’s why you will see in that Scripture, they said it twice, it showed the kind of desperation that was in their spirit. They said we have waited for Him and He will save us. This is the Lord we have waited for Him. It shows the kind of desperation in their soul. It says we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation. Because we have waited. So, mount Zion is both a place and a person. You must become mount Zion. I must become mount Zion. That beautiful place in elevation, seated with Christ. I must become mount Zion, the joy of the whole earth. And we must be in mount Zion where there is deliverance and holiness. The mount where God dwells and we are waiting for Him.
What makes mount Zion symbolic? Because everywhere is holiness. As we are waiting, we must not wait as a bride whose garment is stained and full of wrinkles, we must wait with our garments as white as snow. The Bible says in Psalms that the dew of Hermon is on mount Zion, that is where God commands the blessing. God does not command His blessing on a random place, it is the place of His chosen. It is the place of His habitation. It is the place of His rest. Can we become that place of Gods rest? Can we become that place of Gods habitation? Can we become that dwelling place of God?
Psalm 133 verse 3 says; “It is like the dew [This is the description of the oil] it says it is like the dew of Hermon descending upon the mountains of Zion. It says ‘For there’. It is not talking about the dew, it is talking about Zion. It says for there the Lord commanded the blessing. Life forever more. Is that not what we have in Christ? God said I have set in Zion for a stone. The chief corner stone, an everlasting stone. So, as we wait in Christ, we are waiting on mount Zion. As we live in Christ, we have the life of mount Zion like Psalm 121 verse 1. For those that put their trust in God, they are like mount Zion, they shall not be moved. The things of the world, the lust of the eye, the pride of life, the lust of the flesh will not move you in mount Zion. The Bible says you will not just be immovable, you will abide forever. Is that not what the Bible says about Jesus in John 3 verse 16? For God so loves the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. Will abide forever.
Jesus is our advantage. Jesus is our mount Zion; in Him we wait for God. His disciples were asking Him, will you now in this time restore the kingdom to Israel? He said yours is to tarry, these things you are asking for, the Father has it in His purview, but yours is to do as I ask you to do. I believe it is a good time to pray. Ask God to give you the grace to wait upon mount Zion.
