The Lessons from Eve : Discover What You Must do to Safeguard Your Marriage

Genesis chapter three, we will read from verse one; The Lessons from Eve. We want   to pray, as women, this is the first woman. What mistake did she make? How did she fall from grace that we must learn from? What are the things that happened to her that must not happen to us? What are the things that she encountered in her life that dethroned her from being a queen to being a pauper, we must learn it. Last week, we looked at The Wisdom of the Virtuous Woman, and I'm sure many of us were blessed by that. But today, we want to look and pray from the first woman, whether we like it or not, we are all products of this woman. Whether you love her today or you don't, every woman is after the kind of Eve. So, what happens to her? We want to learn from it.

Genesis 3 “Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, has God indeed said ‘you shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’” 4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” 6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was [a]pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves [b]coverings. 8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.”

Verse 1; now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, He said to the woman, he didn’t say to them, he didn’t say to Adam and Eve, he didn’t say to the marriage. He said to the woman, “Has God indeed said you shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” He said to the woman as God indeed said? Verse 2, and the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; when the serpent was speaking to the woman, he said, “you” when she was going to respond, she said, “we.”  Has God indeed said, “you.” But when she was going to respond, she said “we may eat of the fruits of the garden.” Verse 3, but of the fruits of the tree which is in the midst of the garden God has said you shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.

VERSE 4 “then the serpent said to the woman, you will not surely die.” The serpent said to the woman, has God indeed said, did he mention anything about her husband? The serpent was addressing her and the first thing the devil will attack in the life of any woman is her relationship with God number one lesson from Eve. Your relationship with God is a personal relationship. But for the woman when she was going to respond, she said “we” because often times this is the mistake that women make, they think their relationship with God is a family affair. It’s an error. Your relationship with God is not a family affair, it is a personal affair. Some women think because their husbands are not born again and I've not given to the things of God they should also not be given to the things of God you are making a mistake, when the devil comes at you, he will come at you as an individual first. Because he knows if he can get you as an individual the helper of that home, the builder of that home, he can penetrate. Oftentimes it’s been said that if a wall does not crack, then a lizard cannot enter it. The crack in the wall of homes often times come from this point.

Lesson from Eve number one, your relationship with God is a personal affair. It is not a collective affair. Don’t say if our daddy does not go to church we will not go, if our daddy is not reading the Bible we will not read it. If our daddy is not praying, we will not pray. If our dad is not minding the things of God will not mind it, it's a wrong assumption. When the devil came to Eve, he came to her directly. And the serpent said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, you shall not eat? And because she had always taken her relationship with God as a family affair and not a personal affair. She said “we”! Are we also making that mistake now? Is it we or you? The instruction to follow Jesus is it about we or you? Because in the last day when all of us will stand and give account you will not stand as a marriage we will stand as an individual. Each person will give account of the things that he has done in the flesh, each person, each person, each person. You won’t say to God; I would have made it to heaven. It's just that the husband that I married he's just stubborn that's how I threw my salvation away and say let me deal with this man. Would that be the reports? Your salvation is not a family salvation is a personal salvation.

And that's why Jesus is your Lord. Our Lord Jesus is a collective Lordship of the family of Christ, not your personal family. Your salvation cannot save your husband or your children, every man for himself. Each of them must accept the Lord Jesus as their Lord and Savior because you the mother accepted Jesus does not mean they are covered in terms of salvation. So your relationship with God is a personal affair. Lesson number one.

Verse 2; and she said we may eat it but of the tree of the garden God has said you shall not eat. The reason she's muddling up the instruction is because this was not she didn't receive it as a personal instruction. She received it as a family instruction. How is your relationship with God? Do you have a personal relationship with God? Are you waiting for there to be family altar for you to pray? Are you waiting for your husband to stand up in the middle of the night to pray, before you pray?  Are you waiting for other people to be spiritual around you before you take your spiritual life seriously?

We're using all this points to pray. If that's how you have been taking your relationship with God as a community affair it must stop. Everyone must come to God as they are. The same way your husband, your children and your family members will be accountable before God as an individual so will you. Because your parents are pastors does not cover you. In the day of the great judgment pastor’s children will not be lined up separately. The divide is not three, it’s two the right and the left side. Those that have had a personal relationship with Jesus will be on the right. And those that have not will be on the left. There's no middle ground. Verse 5 for God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Verse 6 “so when the woman saw” she saw something. When you see, you see with your eyes. “When the woman saw that the tree was good for food” The next lesson here is what do you see? Eve saw something. She didn't just fall, she saw something. What do you see? Around you what do you see? In you what do you see? What you see will determine who you will become. She saw something; she saw what she's not supposed to see. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, it's not a bad idea. And it was pleasant to the eyes. It was good for food; she saw that it was pleasant. What are the things that you are seeing that are pleasant? What are the things you are possessing that are pleasant for the eyes? You are just accommodating them, after all is not too bad now. What are those things you are seeing? Eve saw something as a woman, what are you seeing? What you see what you behold, would determine who you will become? What are you seeing? What you see is what you behold, what you behold, is what you will become lesson number two. Lessons from Eve. Eve saw what she was not supposed to see.

The Bible says look unto Jesus, that's the person you should be seeing. Looking unto Jesus, the author, and the finisher of your faith. What do you see around you? Before this time, everything Eve was seeing was the beauty of God was the glory of God. She never saw fault with God. Eve never found fault with God, not for one day, until she saw, until she saw what she was not supposed to see. She started finding fault with God. So God does not want us to be like him? So, these things are not actually perfect. If I can see more, I can make them perfect. If I can just help God, you know, she could even be thinking religiously. If I can help God achieve this thing. This thing that God is telling me to do is not perfect. She saw; What are you seeing? A woman that is not contented in her husband's house is because she saw something else. See, until there is a basis of comparison people don't change.

There is something else they have seen. They now compared it with what they have, and they now said what they have is not good enough. But if all they know is what they have, they will be contented. The reason many people lose contentment is because they have seen an alternative. They've seen something else. If only your husband is the person you are seeing, you've not seen another man, how do you compare? How do you compare? No basis for comparison. Before all that Eve was seeing was God. Then suddenly, the devil introduced another picture. And she saw it, and she had a basis for comparison. What or who are you comparing with God? The things that Jesus has told you what have the devil shown to you that you're comparing it with? Genesis chapter three, we are still reading that verse 6, it says, and it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, and she took of its fruits. She had never touched this tree before until she saw. And she ate it. She also gave to husband with her and he ate. Do we see it? In all these conversations did you hear the husband until the place of eating? Because the woman carries a power. There's an influence that the woman carries. She's a builder, whatever she sees, she will build with or without the consent of the man, she will build it.

Because the woman is one that is known to be so persuasive. That's why when they are looking for marketers in the secular world. They always look for women. Why there is a   persuasive power it’s spiritual. There's a persuasive power of a woman, a woman can talk to you to a point where you change your mind. But when the devil has that power, he will abuse it. There's a reason why God give a woman that persuasive power is to help the man not to destroy him, to build him and not to destroy him. Do we see that? So she gave it to her husband. So, you will ask when the husband was eating it, how come he did not ask any question? How come he didn’t question the fruit or the origin? Because the man has grown to trust her. We looked at that last week. The heart of her husband safely trusts in her.

Verse 7, let’s see the result of this; then the eyes of both of them were opened. The woman saw something she ate it and gave it to her husband that was with her. And the eyes of both of them were opened “and they knew.” In Genesis chapter two, verse 25, the Bible says and they were both naked, their nakedness was not in doubt, but they didn't know. The consciousness of their nakedness was not there, they were contented with their nakedness. But something happened in Genesis chapter three verse seven. The discontentment of their nakedness set in. They're not satisfied anymore. They were naked. Their state had been from Genesis chapter two, verse 25. They were both naked, the man and his wife and they were not ashamed is the clause.

They were naked, exposed, but they were not ashamed of their state. What happens to you, woman, you have always been contented with the life that you and your husband are living trusting God. And suddenly you went to the market and you met your old school friend. And you saw that the touch light phone you are using is not what she's using. She's using touch screen. You saw that she came to market with a car. You saw that she was more dressed than you are and suddenly you came back home. You were naked before you went to the market, but you were not ashamed. But you now came back. What happened? You saw! You saw, before you saw you were contented. You were not ashamed. But because you saw and the problem is not just with seeing. It's about seeing in the flesh. You saw and something entered into you called discontentment and you got home and you were not longer comfortable. You were no longer comfortable, satisfied.

And you looked at the same man that you said my sweetie my darling, God would do it and you said what is it self! Is this what your mates are doing? Is this the kind of life your mates are living?  But sweetheart I’m trying then you say but you are not trying enough, your best is not good enough. Why? You saw you saw something and you start persuading the things that this man would not normally do. You start persuading him, that your friend, he is doing that business you too join him. The things that normally you will not never advise him to do. And because your persuasion was so much you have a power of persuasion and influence. He said if my wife wants me to do it, and he starts doing it, but what happens? You lose your peace. The man that was always available to you, you pray, you will talk and you study together, he is all away, he has gone for three weeks, one months, your peace of mind is now affected. You that never thought your husband can sleep with another man's wife. You're already thinking hope there is no woman next to him where he has gone to? Why the devil has stolen your peace with discontentment. Lessons from Eve. What is that thing that you have seen? How did that discontentment enter you?

Verse 7-8, and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings. And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Hope you are not hiding? What’s your state this evening? Can you boldly come into the presence of the Lord or are you hiding? Is there something that the devil has shown you that is making you hide? We were given thanks with our prayer of thanksgiving, Thanking God that we can come boldly that our sins are forgiven, that we have liberty we have freedom in Christ. Is it true about your life, or the devil as stolen your freedom and your peace? This is the time to pray to the Lord and say Lord I have seen my wrong, your Father is always there with open hands but He wants you to come to yourself, He wants you to see your wrong, pray to the Lord with sincerity of heart, this is a time of brokenness and repentance, this is a time to go before God in boldness and say Lord I know that I have been trying to play religion, and not have a personal relationship with you.
