Jesus Christ The Word: Examining The Personality Behind The Name Jesus

The revelation of Jesus Christ is so important and that’s why it’s not called the knowledge of Jesus Christ, it is a revelation. There was a time when Jesus asked his disciples, He said ‘Disciples, you’ve been with me for a while, who do men say that I am?’ And the disciples started talking and they said ‘some said, you are the Prophet Elijah, some said, you are just a Prophet. Some said this, some said that’. He now paused on that, He said ‘who do you, you that have been with me, you that have walked with me, you that have been with me for so long, who do you say that I am?’ And there was some quietness, and Peter arose and said ‘you are the Christ, the Son of the living God’. And Jesus said ‘flesh and blood has not revealed this to you’ because the revelation of Jesus Christ is not known in the flesh, blood of man cannot contain the revelation of Jesus Christ and Jesus affirmed and said ‘flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my Father in heaven’ because Jesus Christ, the personality of Jesus as Christ is a revelation and that’s why we must not take this series for granted.

Listen To Podcast: JESUS CHRIST THE WORD

You know, when something is unveiled that means it is opened, when a thing is revealed, that means it is re-opened. So, in our heart, and in our spirit, Jesus must be revealed because in there lies the power of his personality in that revelation. So, we will be looking at Jesus Christ, the Word and we will start from John chapter 1 that we are familiar with, we will read verse 1 down to verse 5 and then verse 14;

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

John 1:1-5

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14

Verse 14 made us understand that what we read form verse 1 to 5 is talking about not someone else or something else but that personality of Jesus Christ. It said And the Word’, Capital letter ‘W’, ‘became flesh’ Jesus became flesh. He became man and he dwelt among us and he did the things that man do, he went to places, people could touch him, he ate, drank water. The Word became flesh but the Word did not begin as flesh. It said the Word only transfigured to flesh, And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld, we looked upon, we saw, we recognized His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, of God, full of grace and truth.

Verse 14 made us to understand that the Word only became flesh, the Word is not flesh. The Word became flesh for the sake of men. The Word was not flesh. The origin of the word dates back to the beginning. He said in the beginning was the Word, the word existed in the beginning. Jesus Christ did not start existing in the womb of Mary. He had been in the beginning. So, when you go to Genesis chapter 1 and the Bible says in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, know that the Word was there. Jesus did not begin in the womb of Mary; He only became flesh. He said in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God in the beginning, and the Word was God.

Remember where we read last week, when we were looking at Jesus Christ the Lord, that Jesus did not count it robbery, even though He is God to be equal with God but He humbled himself, He positioned Himself in such a  way that He was able to carry out the will of the Father. And He said the Word was God, He said, He was in the beginning, you will think that it is a tautology, No! Verse 2 is making us to understand that He was in the beginning with God, what happened there? I want you to just put your mark on that Scripture and let’s go to Genesis chapter 1 so that we understand what God is saying to us.  Genesis 1, I will read from verse 1 and will stop at 5

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.

Gen 1: 1-5

‘In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth’, that verse started in the beginning and in John chapter 1 verse 1, He said in the beginning was the Word. In verse 2, He said, He was in the beginning with God, He has never been separated from God, there is a unity between the Word and God. The Word is where God is. God does not stay in a different location and the Word is in a different location. God is not doing something different and the Word is doing something different, there is a unity of purpose and assignment which means that verse 2 said, He was with God in the beginning, there was nothing that God did in the beginning that the Word was not involved in.  And he said in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Verse 2 says, He was with God in the beginning so when God created the heavens and the earth, we can say in the beginning, the Word created the heavens and the earth because the Word was with God and the Word is God. He said in the beginning, the Word created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of, See, everywhere we see God now, we put Word.

In the beginning, the Word created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of the Word was hovering over the face of the waters. Then Word said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And the Word saw the light, that it was good; and the Word divided the light from the darkness. The Word called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So, the evening and the morning were the first day.

So, everything that happened in Genesis chapter 1 down was done by God, which is the Word, by the Word which was with God. So, everything we saw is a product of the Word. So the creation of the earth from the beginning was as a result of the Word doing it. The dividing of the day from the night is as a result of the Word doing it. The Spirit that was hovering over the face of the deep was a Spirit of the Word. Do we understand?

Let’s go back to John. The same thing we read in Genesis chapter 1 verse 1 to 5, verse 3 He said all things were made through him, so are we confused? No! All Things! Heaven and the earth, the fishes, the cattle, Man, the light and the day, all things, all things! Did we see all? So, there is no exemption. All things! Whether created or recreated. All things were made through him, including the devil, angels, spirits, all things. Please, I want you to follow carefully in your spirit, don’t let the devil pull a veil in your heart as you are listening to this word. Don’t think that it is only the things that you were privileged to read in Genesis chapter 1 that were only the things that God made. We are going to see it, whether visible or invisible, all things! Man, Spirit, animals, plants, all things. He said all things were made through him, the Word. And Without him, I love this, without him nothing, did you see nothing? Nothing means no thing! Whether visible or invisible, thrones, dominions, principalities, powers, spirits, plants, animals, man, light, day, sun, moon, all the planets, galaxies, nothing was made. Without Him, nothing was made that was made, nothing!

And in verse 4, He said In Him was life, the life that gave opportunity to everything that is living. That life was in Him. So, the Word is life. The Word is life! And the life was also the light of men. But I want to pause a little bit. He said there is nothing. Nothing at all that was made outside him, nothing! All things were made by the Word and we understand that the Word, the personality of that Word is Jesus Christ. So outside Jesus Christ, nothing. Nothing was made! So, there are things that look as if they are made, please follow the Holy Spirit closely this morning, when you have dreams and it looks as if there is a  manipulation, false evidence appearing real, it puts fear in your heart, the Bible says nothing, nothing tangible, nothing real, nothing that has life in it was created outside Him.

So, every other thing that has death in it, every other thing that looks like manipulations, that has false appearance, is not in Him. Because in verse 4, He said in him was life, everything He made, He gave life to, there’s no death in Him. In Him was life because sometimes, we get to some point and we say but all things are made in Christ. There’s nothing that was made outside of him. In Him all things consist, of his fullness everything came out so how come there are activities, how come there are manipulations, how came there are cunning craftiness, the Bible says in Him was life, Note it! In Him was life so when you see death. It’s not the Word. The material he used in making everything is life and we are going to see it confirmed in other Scriptures, the material that the Word uses is life. So, when you see any making of any sort that does not produce life, that is not life giving, that is not made of life, is not made by the Word. Do we understand?

He said in him was life and the life was the light of men. The life alights on men and gives them light. They are able to see, they are able to move, they are able to make progress, because his life became the light of men and he says that light shines in darkness so that life is not darkness, that life does not produce darkness. But he says that light shines in darkness but it does not rule out that darkness will be there, that it will be prevalent but he said that the life that produces light, that light will shine in darkness and the darkness do not comprehend it. It could not understand it because it is bigger than it.  He said, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. So, verse 14 makes us to understand that the person we are talking about, which is the Word is Jesus Christ, so Jesus Christ is the Word, that was in the beginning, that was with God. That made all things whether visible or invisible.

Last week we saw that because he has been made Lord and Christ by God, He has all things under his feet, because the Bible says, at the mention of the name of Jesus, every knee bows, every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord, whether things in heaven or on earth, or beneath the earth, why? He has the Lordship over it all. And this makes us understand a deeper why. The Lordship of Jesus is not something that dropped on Him, It’s a description of his personality. He is the Word. The Word makes everything, do you serve what you have made, No! He is the creator of all creations so he is Lord and Master over all creations because He made them, there is no creation that has life in it that is not made by Jesus the Word, no creation! That’s why he is Lord over all, because all things were made through him.

And I want you to note, all things were made through him, that ‘through’ means ‘via him’. Nothing was made that did not pass through him. So, Jesus is like a machinery, a mould, and he has a raw material for his making called life. So, everything that is desired by God, the Father to make, he makes through that giant plant called the Word, that has life in it. We are going to see more of that. Jesus also affirming this in John chapter 6, let’s see that; John chapter 6 verse 63, and I will just love to read from 63 to 64.

63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

John 6:63

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. It is the Spirit who gives life, remember where we read in Genesis chapter 4, we said the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the deep. What’s the spirit? It’s the Spirit of the Word. So, it is the Spirit of the Word that gives life. So, it’s the same thing as saying the Word gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I, Jesus Christ speak to you they are spirit and they are life. So, my words are spiritual and they are life. The material I operate with is life. That is why you will see that anywhere you see that Word, you will see life because the material of the Word is life. The Bible says that through Adam came death but Jesus is the life-giving Spirit. That’s the living translation not King James. Through him came life, He is the life-giving spirit. So, anytime you see the Word, there is always life because the material of the Word is life, the personality of the Word is life. He says the word that I speak to you, they are spirit and they are life. Let’s continue to verse 64;

64 But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. 65 And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.”66 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. 67 Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?” 68 But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”70 Jesus answered them, “Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?” 71 He spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, for it was he who would betray Him, being one of the twelve.

John 6:64- 71

But there are some of you who do not believe, now he is speaking to his disciples, He said some of you don’t believe that the words that I speak to you, they are spirit and they are life, remember in verse 14, He said and the Word became flesh, so Jesus was in the frame of a man. The Word was in the frame of a man so many of his disciples could not relate with what he was saying, it was too sophisticated, too spiritual for just a guy that was just walking up and down. When he walks through Jerusalem, dust stays on his sandal, his clothes get dirty, he gets hungry, he uses the toilet so you now say the words you are speaking, they are spirit and they are life. Jesus knew they did not believe because it is a revelation.

Just like some people in the world today are still like those people, they don’t believe and this is the reason, it’s a revelation. He says but there are some of you who do not believe because Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe and who would  betray him And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.”No one! That’s why He said to Simon Peter, flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my Father in heaven, this revelation is hidden in the personality of God, it’s only when He allows you access to this revelation that you know it.

He is repeating the same thing, no one comes to me except it has been granted, access has been granted by my Father. So, until God gives you access to the revelation of Jesus Christ, you don’t know it. And He said from that time, many of his disciples went back. You know we were looking at Jesus Christ the Lord last week and we saw that it’s a deep revelation, he said no one says Jesus is Lord except by the spirit of God, the Holy Spirit. No one says Jesus accursed by the Holy Spirit and see after Jesus made this bold statement about his personality. See what happened, It said in verse 66, from that time, from the time the revelation of Jesus became an issue, since the time, they could not comprehend what he was saying. He said from that time, many of his disciples went back and walked with him, no more. Then Jesus said to the twelve, ‘Do you also want to go away?’

And it’s the same question this morning, do you want to also go away? But Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go?’ Based on understanding. All things were made by him. There is nothing that was not made through him. He said to whom shall we go, you have the words of eternal life’.  You Jesus Christ, have, possess, but its deeper than that He is the Word of eternal life. Verse 69, Also we have come to believe, did you see that? We have come to believe and know that You are the Christ. We have come to believe and know that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”That’s a deep revelation because we have come to believe, we can’t go away. And Jesus answered them, did I not choose you the twelve and one of you is the devil? He spoke of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon for it was he who would betray him, being one of the twelve.

Now the revelation of Jesus Christ is a deep thing and you cannot follow him, if you cannot embrace this revelation. It said, when this revelation came out and Jesus said See oh! It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak, they are spirit and they are life. And you know, they were like, what is he saying? Prophets come and say, thus says the Lord, eh! Elijah will come, the Lord before whom I stand. You understand, they were used to that. They could identify with that. Moses would go to the mountain and come down and say this is the ten commandments of God. He didn’t say I am God. But this man, a thirty something year old man, in this frame, the sun heats him, his sandals gets dusty, his clothes get dirty, he goes to the toilet and he is saying the words that I speak to you, they are spirit and they are life, they could not comprehend it because flesh and blood cannot comprehend the revelation of Jesus Christ. It has to be spiritually discerned. Jesus is the Word that’s why He said the words that I speak to you, they are spirit and they are life. The material is life.

Hebrews chapter 4 verse 12, I want to read the description of the Word of God to us, if it’s describing thing or a person.

12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

Heb 4:12

‘For the word of God is living’, did we see life again? For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Please, children of God? Is this a description of an instrument or apparatus? Is it a description of a thing or a person? I want you to look at your Bible very well, For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. The Word of God. Does it talk about an instrument, an apparatus or a personality? I want to read verse 13 And there is no creature hidden before his sight, but all things are naked and opened to the eyes of Him, to whom we must give account. Is it talking about an instrument or an apparatus or a personality? A personality! The personality of Jesus Christ, the Word of God. The first characteristics of the Word, of the personality of Jesus is life and we know it’s not just any kind of life, eternal life.

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

John 3: 16

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, the Word, Jesus Christ, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have what? life. Everlasting life! So anytime we talk about the Word, we talk about Jesus, there is one common thing that ties him, life. Eternal life. To make us see that truly the revelation of Jesus Christ as the Word is real.

21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

James 1:21

Therefore, lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. Who saves us? Jesus! And He says in this James chapter 1 verse 21, receive with meekness, the Word, a personality that is able to save your soul. Who came for the sins of the world to save the sons of men? Jesus! So, the Holy Spirit is not the Word, Jesus is the Word. Scriptures interpreting Scriptures, Jesus is the personality of the word. He said receive with meekness the word that is able, that has the ability, that has been wired to save your souls. It’s not an instrument or an apparatus. So, when people say the word of God, it’s not this? This is Scriptures. All Scriptures are written, it didn’t say all the word of God are written, all Scriptures! This is Scriptures. The Word is a personality. He is Jesus Christ. So, whenever we talk about the Word of God, don’t say I am holding the word of God, the word has to be implanted in your heart. You have to receive with meekness the personality of the Word, the personality of Jesus Christ. That is able to save your souls.

1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4 having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

Heb 1:1-4

God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, I want you to follow this closely, has in these last days spoken to us by, are we reading our Bibles? has in these last days spoken to us, by what? His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; did you see that? Through whom,  does this not validate what we read in John chapter 1, God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds. So, the same thing we read in John chapter 1 is the same thing that is being repeated here, through whom, through the Word all things were made. He said, through Him he made all the worlds. All! I always love when I see that all. All! who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things, did we see that? Upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

All things are upheld, all things are sustained by the Word of his power, the personality of Jesus Christ. All things! He said through him, he made all the worlds. All! No wonder when the name of Jesus, when Jesus is being revealed. The devil cannot stand it. Hell trembles because he is the Master. The Word! I want to us to lastly see John chapter 14, what Jesus said in John chapter 14 verse 6-7,

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

John 14:6

Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. The Bible makes us to understand that the Word is true and Jesus said He is the truth, not a truth. I am the way, the truth, the life. The Word. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you have known me, the Word, you have known my Father also so you can’t separate the Word from the Father. You can’t separate the Word from God, they are one. So, when you know the Word that is with God, you have known God. That’s what Jesus is saying, if you have known me the Word, you have known my Father also and from now on, you know him and you have seen Him. So, when you see the Word, you have seen the Father. When you know the Word, you have known the Father. And this is where, I want to put a huge disclaimer, knowing the Scriptures is not equal to knowing God. I say it with all humility in the Holy Spirit, knowing the Scriptures is not equal to knowing God. Knowing the Word is what is equal to knowing God. This is Scriptures. Jesus is the Word. The Bible says all Scriptures are written as the Lord grants holy men the inspiration to write them.

All Scriptures are not what made the worlds. All Scriptures are not what made all things. What made all things is the Word, the personality of Jesus Christ, not all Scriptures. Scriptures are written for our instruction, for our correction, for our edification. That’s why the Bible says, the letter of this Scriptures, it kills but the Spirit of the Word that gave credence and backing to the Scripture it gives life. So, you only encounter the Word, when you encounter the Spirit of the Word. Jesus is the Word. Knowing God is knowing Jesus Christ. I know people that have this Bible as a text book in the university, they studied Christian Religious Studies. They have read from Genesis to revelation. And if you see them, there is no life in them, it is not the letter that gives life, it’s not the English they have translated in this Scripture that gives life, the person that gives life is the Word and He is Jesus Christ. If you’ve not encountered Him, you cannot encounter life. If you have not encountered Him, you cannot know God.

The revelation of Jesus Christ- Jesus is the Word. So, our passion, our desire should be for him. You should cringe in you if look at your life and Jesus is not implanted in you not that you look by your bedside and your Bible is not there. You should be afraid when the Word is not in you, not that the Bible, the Scriptures is not under your pillow. They are different. The Word is a personality and He is Jesus Christ. That’s why He told that woman by the well. He said, if you know the personality that is asking you to drink, you will quickly put your fetcher down and draw because what I have to give to you is a life that never gets exhausted. You encounter me, you encounter life that never runs dry.  When you read the Bible and there is not life in it, you have not encountered the real thing. That’s why we read that Hebrews chapter 4 verse 12, and let us see who truly is the Word. Jesus, the Word, that’s the revelation of Jesus Christ, another part of it

Jesus is a dynamic personality because you will wonder, the same John the beloved, the Bible says He is the disciple that sat at the bosom of Jesus Christ, another person that was mentioned that sat at the bosom like that was Mary, even sometimes in the Bible it will be recorded as the one that He loved, the disciple that He loved because John was always seated. In Revelation, the same John saw Jesus, He saw the Word and he bowed. In fact, he said, I fell as one that was dead. He met with Jesus when Jesus became flesh but when he saw the glory of Jesus in the beginning, that’s why Jesus said the same glory that I had with you, when he saw Jesus in the fullness of His glory, He fell as if he has never encountered Him in his life. Revelation! When Jesus is revealed. You will be asking yourself, so what have I been doing? How have I been relating? This time is to encounter Jesus Christ not Scriptures. The Words!

And I pray that God will help us in Jesus name.
