JEHOVAH JIREH – The Provider of the Year: Examining 4 Fundamental Reasons Why God Provides

Today we will be looking at JEHOVAH JIREH: The Provider of The Year. I have come to announce by the Spirit of God that there is one; and His name is JEHOVAH JIREH and He is the provider of the year. Every man is limited in himself; every government is limited in itself, but the one that has endless and abundant supply, the river that never runs dry, that the whole world suck upon and is not exhausted is JEHOVAH JIREH, and He is the provider of the year. He is letting us into who He is.

Last week the LORD helped us to see that God responds to His name. Five things we saw last week about the LORD of the times and seasons, five things that God responds to. One of it is that God responds to His name. And I want us to see that Scripture again. Let's start from Proverbs 18:10, the Bible says: “The name of the LORD is a strong tower.” The name of JEHOVAH JIREH; that's our focus this morning, this is the focus of the Spirit. The name JEHOVAH JIREH is the name of the LORD. The name of the owner of the universe, the creator of the ends of the earth, “Is a strong tower, the righteous run into that name and they are saved.” Do you have issues with provisions? The Bible says (this is not my writing; this is the script of the LORD) that “the name of the LORD is a strong tower, the righteous run into that name and they are saved.”

You run into the name of the LORD, God does not throw you out, He doesn't lock you out. You run into it and you are safe. We are building a foundation on that so that you understand that God responds to His name. Numbers 23:19 the Bible says; “God is not a man that He will lie nor the son of man that He will repent.”  God is not a man. Matthew 22:32; God saying that; “I Am the God of Abraham; the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob God is not the God of the dead but of the living.” That's why we call Him the living God. If you are living; God is your God, you can take His name with you and He will show up. The name of the LORD is a strong tower, the righteous run into that name and they are saved.

What is the name of the LORD that you are taking with you this year? What name of the LORD are you running into this year, that will be your strong tower? What name of the LORD will save you this year? And that's why we are looking at JEHOVAH JIREH, the Holy Spirit is letting us into the provider of the year. The inexhaustible, unlimited provider. A God that is not affected by Covid-19, a God that you can't shut down His economy. His economy is ever constant and always reliable. Statistics does not affect His economy, in the map of God's economy there is no decline. It continues to peak. That's the kind of graph the economy of God plots. It's a continuous peaking experience. That's the graph of God and He is the provider of the year. The same thing God said in Exodus 3:6, I Am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac the God of Jacob, the God of the living. He is God, He is Jehovah, He is the LORD. One of the words that God gave us for this year is that what will mark us out is that we must understand the LORD, we must understand the ownership right and control of God. Once we do that, we step into the possibilities that God provides. We must step into it.

Genesis 22, we are going into the heart of the message. Understand that the name of the LORD is a name that you must take with you this year. Genesis 22:14 it's a lengthy passage, I will just read verse 14 and paraphrase the rest of the story. I'm sure we are familiar with the story of Abraham when God requested for His son Isaac, but this is what happened afterwards when God showed up from Abraham. Verse14; “And Abraham called the name of the place…” What is the place? The place where the LORD provided a ram whose horn were stuck in the thickets and the Angel cried out to Abraham; “Abraham don't kill your son; God has made provision.” And Abraham called the name of the place; the LORD will provide – JEHOVAH JIREH. The LORD will provide as it is said to this day.

The B part of it is where I want us to hold on to very strongly. “On the mount of the LORD, it shall be provided.” ‘On the mount of the LORD’. Not in the mount of men, not in the mount of countries or institutions. On the mountain of the LORD, it shall be provided. There is something about the mountain of the LORD. The mountain of the LORD has the name of the LORD. In Isaiah 2, it says “the mountain of the LORD’s house shall be exalted above every other mountain and above the hills and nations will come and flow into it.”

The mountain of God's provision is higher than every other mountain. At the mount of the LORD, it shall be provided. The LORD will provide, JEHOVAH JIREH. If you want to personalize it, you can say the LORD is my provider. Another translation I love says “God sees to it.” JEHOVAH JIREH means “God sees to it.” Another word you can use is that God sorts it out. What is that thing that is a mountain before you? What is that provision that you are in dare need of? God will sort it out, on the mountain of the LORD it shall be provided. It shall be delivered on the mountain of the LORD. What are you trusting God for? God will see to it; He is a provider. When we are talking about JEHOVAH JIREH, understand that provisions are beyond money. There are some of us that have so limited the provisions of God to money. God's provision is beyond money. What God provides is grace. And the grace of God comes in different bodies, it could come in money, it could come in men. It could come as ideas; they are all provisions from God.

So, God provides different resources, He is unlimited. For this particular verse we are looking at, what God provided for Abraham was not money, at the mount of the LORD; what he needed provision for was a lamb of sacrifice and he thought he was going to lose his son because that's what God requested but God provided a replacement, God provided a lamb of sacrifice. He is JEHOVAH JIREH; He will see to it. What is it in your life that is beyond you that has become such a big issue? God will see to it. And we are going to look out for four fundamental reasons why God will see to it. Four reasons that will build faith in your heart that God will be your provider for this year. Four fundamental reasons why God provides, why He does not change His mind in providing. I will run through four of them, then we go into the details of each of them.

Number one: God responds with provision because of His role and responsibility, Number two: God provides because of His nature and personality, Number three: Because of His ability and Number four: Because of His disposition.

Now let us look at number one: GOD PROVIDES BECAUSE OF HIS ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITY. In James 1:17; the Bible says: “every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and it comes down from the Father…”  That is the role of God. He is the Father. It comes down from “the Father”, not "a father" it comes down from the Father. Is God your Father? If He is your Father, then He will provide. He is the Father. Every good and every perfect gift. Are they not provisions? Good gifts are provisions, perfect gifts are provisions that's the kind of provisions that God gives, they are good and perfect. It comes from above and comes down from the Father of light, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. God provides because of His role and responsibility as your Father.

Jesus said to His disciples; “I am going to God My Father and your Father, because He is your Father, He provides.” Matthew 7:11. If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” If earthly fathers that are evil knows how to give good gifts to their children, how much more your Father. So, God will provide because He is your Father. That is His role and that is His responsibility. If you see Genesis 2 so that you will understand the Father role of God. The Father role of God had been there from the beginning.

Genesis 2:8. The LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden, and there He put the man whom He had formed” Let us also see verse 10. Now a river went out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it parted and became four riverheads. 11 The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one which skirts the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 And the gold of that land is good. Every good and perfect gift comes from the Father. Bdellium and the onyx stone are there. 13 The name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one which goes around the whole land of Cush. 14 The name of the third river is Hiddekel; it is the one which goes toward the east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates.” And see what the Bible says; God had planted these rivers, He made sure that all the provisions are already in this garden. God planted a garden, God made a provision of the garden then He put the man that He Fathered, that He made in His image and likeness, He puts him in the garden.

He is your Father, He will provide. God is not irresponsible; He is a responsible Father. We remember the story of the prodigal son, when the son came to the father, and said “father what I have with you, give me my portion.” Did the Father say no you don't have anything with me? A responsible father has inheritances for his sons. He has provision for his children. The father said “you know what; take your portion” and the boy took his portion and left. That's God, He has provision for you. When the elder brother came and said father why did you make such feast for my younger one that had gone on prodigal living, me that been with you, you have not as much kill a lamb for me. The father said to him, “all that I have is yours.” That's God. That's your Father, He has provisions for you. What He has is yours.

Jesus said “the Father has bestowed upon Me a kingdom, the same I bestow on you.” That's responsibility, that's His role as a Father, so He provides. The understanding of His Lordship and Fatherhood will keep us in a posture to receive from Him. You are not coming with a beggarly mentality; the boy was not going to the father to psych him if it's possible. The boy came in with confidence. And that's why the Bible says “let us come boldly to the throne of grace that we might obtain mercy and find grace to help in the time of need.” Come boldly and not apologetically because He is your Father. What do you need? Ask Him. Jesus said “whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will do it.” He won't think about it; He will do it. Once you come by the right channel, He will do it. God is your Father.

Number two: THE NATURE AND PERSONALITY OF GOD

God is good and you can trust Him. Psalm 84:10-12 “for a day in your court is better than a thousand, I will rather be a door keeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You!” God is good, no good thing will He withhold. The provisions of God are good things. He will not withhold His provisions from you because it is His nature, it is His personality. And God is consistent. We will see several Scriptures so that we understand this. Many people have been shortchanged by the devil because they believe that God is not interested in them. In Luke 18:19, the Bible says: “So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.”

So, God is good. I'm sure we are used to saying God is good all the time, all the time God is good. It's not just a cliché, it's the truth. It is His nature and personality. He is good. So, because He is good, He provides. You can't be in lack and God will be looking at you when you ask Him for provision. No! The Bible says that “young lions can suffer hunger and be in lack, but those I put their trust in God, they will lack nothing good.” Because He will provide because it's His nature. The nature of God is goodness. In Exodus 34 when He was proclaiming His name before Moses. It says “the LORD God merciful, gracious. Goodness is one of His name. He is goodness. God is good, it's His nature and personality.”

1 Chronicles 16:34 says O give thanks to the LORD for He is good. When you defining someone or something, take egg for example, you say egg is this and that. It says give thanks to the LORD for He is good. That's His definition, personality and nature. He is good. Don't let the devil deceive you that God is bad. No! God is good all the time, for His mercy endures forever. God is good it's His nature, and because He is good, He will provide. See God is not good today and tomorrow He changes His mind, no there is no variation with God. The nature of God does not cast shadow. Jesus was asking that man, He said what do you want me to do for you? And He said “God if you will let me be healed.” And Jesus replied "I will" I'm always willing. Because it's my nature. I'm always willing to do good. Be healed.

So, you will not get to a point where you go to God and you say “God if you will, provide for me.” He is willing, because that is His nature. His nature does not change, there is no variation in the nature of God, He is always good, He is consistently good, He does not waver. God alone is good and that's why He is the provider of the year. People have reasons for being good. Because you are good to me, I am good to you, because you are nice to me or because you take care of my children, I am good to you. no! God is not like that. God is always good. Psalm 145, because I feel we need to understand the goodness of God and the nature of His person, because these are the things that qualify us for unending provisions in His hands.

In Psalm 145:9, the Bible says: “The LORD is good to all…” I love this one. Jesus mentioned it, He said “is it not God that cause rain to fall on both the righteous and the unrighteous?” He did not say rain when you want to fall, this is the map of the falling; pass through this house and exempt the other. No! God is good to all. And that's why Jesus did not die for some, He died for all. God is good to all and His tender mercies are over all His works. You are God's masterpiece, you are His workmanship, His tender mercy is over you, so He will provide for you. Psalm 34:8 says taste and see that the LORD is good. This year taste and see the provider of the year. Taste and see that the LORD is good. Come and experience the nature and personality of God this year. He is always consistent. On the mountain of the LORD, it shall be provided.

Number three: THE ABILITY OF GOD

Why God provides is because He can do it. Because He is your Father number one, number two because that's His nature and personality, number three is His ability. He can do it. Psalm 31:19-20.“Oh, how great is Your goodness, Which You have laid up for those who fear You, Which You have prepared for those who trust in You In the presence of the sons of men!20 You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence From the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion From the strife of tongues.” Oh! how great is Your goodness which you have laid up, not which you will lay up, it says which you have laid up, He can do it. God giving you Provisions is not something He will be thinking of how to do. It is something He has done over and over again; He has the ability. There is no level or number of provisions that is beyond His capacity. He is God.

2 Corinthians 9:8. “And God is able to make all grace…” all provisions abound towards you, that you, His son, daughter; always having all sufficiency in all things may have an abundance for every good work. God is able to make all grace, the supplies and the provisions of God are encapsulated in the word called grace. So, when God gives grace to parent it's a provision. He is JEHOVAH JIREH. When God gives you grace to be a wife it's a provision. When God gives you grace to study and excel it's a provision. When God gives you wisdom, knowledge and understanding it's a provision. It's not just about silver and gold. He is the God of all grace; He is the God of all provisions.

In Jeremiah 32:17, see what God has to say; “Ah! LORD God, behold you have made the heavens and earth by your great power and outstretched arm, there is nothing too hard for You.” There is nothing because You are able. It's the ability of God. It got to a point he said Ah LORD! behold, see. And it's the same thing the Holy Spirit is saying to us, see! God made the heavens and the earth, what you want God to do for you this year, is it up to the creation of heavens? Is it up to the creations of the earth? Then there is nothing too hard for Him to do. I want us to see verse 27. God Himself is repeating it. “Behold I am the LORD the God of all flesh, is there anything too hard for me?  No! Nothing is too hard for you my God. He is able. The provisions of God flow to you when you identify the role and responsibility of God as your Father. When you identify His nature and personality as a good God and you recognize His ability as the one that is able, there is nothing that is too hard for Him.

In Ephesians 3:20, the Bible says: “Now to Him who is able…” Who is able? God! The LORD God, JEHOVAH JIREH, who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us. He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we can ask. In Isaiah 55, God said “as the heavens are high above the earth, so are My thoughts higher than your thoughts and My ways than your ways.” My ability surpasses all of yours. God's ability is infinite. There is nothing He cannot do. So, as we run this year, we must understand that our provisions are not sourced on the Nigerian economy but in a God that is able. In Psalm 50:9-12, the Bible says: “I will not take a bull from your house, Nor goats out of your folds.10 For every beast of the forest is Mine, And the cattle on a thousand hills.11 I know all the birds of the mountains, And the wild beasts of the field are Mine.12 “If I were hungry, I would not tell you; For the world is Mine, and all its fullness.” I am unlimited, I do exceedingly more because I Am able, God is able. In Matthew 19:26, when men were amazed. He said with men these things are impossible, but with God all things, all provisions are possible.

Number four: THE FOURTH REASON WHY GOD PROVIDE IS BECAUSE OF HIS DISPOSITION

He is for us and not against us. Romans 8:31-32. “What then can we say to these things, if God is for us, who can be against us.” What economy can stop the flow and provision of God towards us? None! He who did not spare His Son but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things.” His disposition towards us, John 3:16 “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that who so ever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting provisions.” (Emphasis added) the life that God supplies is His provision to you. The Bible says in Romans 8: “if He did not spare His Son, His one and only, how can He now be sparing building, wisdom, knowledge from you.” Think about it. If He did not spare His Son Jesus. He freely gave Him for us, understand the disposition of God. We must be able to recognize the disposition of God towards us, He is not a man that He would lie, His disposition has not changed, He loves us that much and He will provide for us. And He is faithful.

In 1 Corinthians 10:13, the Bible says: “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” That is His disposition, God is faithful, He is faithful to providing for you. And He does not waver at His faithfulness. While we were yet unfaithful, God was faithful. God gave Jesus in hope that we will grope for Him; that’s His disposition. So, God is not planning any evil for you, God is not withholding provisions from you, no! His disposition is to give you freely. If He did not spare His Son, how will now spare all these things that you are asking Him? It says; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able. He won't.

If you are praying for certain things now and it doesn't look as if it's happening; on the mount of the LORD, it shall be provided. Because He will not allow you to be tempted more than you are able, but with the temptation He will make a way of escape, that you may be able to bear it, He will make provision for your escape. God is faithful. That's His disposition towards us, He is faithful toward us, He is committed to us. God is a committed Father and He is good, He is able and He loves you. No good thing will He withhold. God will not watch you suffer and do nothing about it. Some people feel that they have to really suffer, that suffering is part of the will of God for their life. There are certain times when God will make you go through temptation but remember He will make a way of escape. Because it's part of His provision. Look at the story of Abraham, God said give Me your son and he took the son to the mountain, and on that mountain God provided. God did not allow Abraham to go through what he could not bear. And He is the God Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, He is the God of the living.

God is not wavering; He is not changing. I will conclude with Psalm 84, I believe faith is being built in our hearts for this year, there is nothing we desire of the LORD according to His will that He will withhold from us. Psalm 84:11. For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory.” I want us to take this word literally from the pages of the Scripture. The Bible says by faith we know that the worlds are framed by the word of God. I want this word in Psalm 84:11 to leave the pages of the Scripture and jump into your heart, and jump into your world and become an experience for you. For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD will give grace and glory; The LORD will give grace, He will provide grace and glory, no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. No good thing will He withhold from my life. Every good and perfect gift comes from God. If He did not spare His Son, understand the disposition of God. The devil will always want to lie about these four things so that we will perpetually be postured away from the provisions of God, He does not want you to see God as your Father, the devil does not want you to see the nature and personality of God as good. He does not want you to see the ability of God and He does not want you to even experience and come to terms with the disposition of God.

If you can stand your ground in faith believing the role and responsibility of God over your life this year, believing and coming to terms with the nature and personality of God that He is good and understanding His ability that He is able and understand His disposition towards you, that if He did not spare His Son but freely gave Him for you, let that continue to ring in your spirit, that if He did not spare His Son but freely gave Him for you, no good thing will He withhold. He will give you grace; He will give you glory.

It is a good time to pray!
