Everybody wants to be important; everybody craves for opportunities and everybody desires to be known. However, not everyone is important; not everyone seizes opportunities and everyone is not known. The quick question that comes to mind is, “why such disparity?”, “how come the expectations of all is only the experience of some?” The answers to the two questions are available in God and can help us as individuals to move from ordinary expectations to real experiences.
During election times, as it was in United States some weeks ago for the Mid-Term Elections; and as it is now in Nigeria for the 2015 General Elections. It is common to see “multitudes” picking the “expression of interest forms. But despite the number of people that pick these forms from various political parties; only very few eventually realize their dreams of either serving their people or looting their treasury.
It is not enough to have great expectations; you must know what is required to experience your great desires. In our societies today, important people (VIPs) are men and women of high financial status (net worth), people in high positions and men and women that have achieved so much in their chosen disciplines.
The challenge with this manner of assessment of importance is that, so many points are given to people based on who or where they are; without much emphasis on how they became who they are, or get to where they are. It is possible today for people to rob other people, cheat other people, deny other people, oppress other people or step on other people to importance. But if you examine their experiences holistically and closely; you will discover the void or emptiness in their hearts and in their lives.
The irony of life is that, the people that you envy; thinking that they are important people in the family, organization, community, city or country; are also envying the serenity, simplicity, speed and satisfaction of your life. The question then is, “Why such envy?” As long as the earth remains; every human pursuit that does not originate from the purpose of life; not tend to the purpose of life, is a vain, frivolous and empty pursuit.
Every “I want to do this”, “I want to do that”, that does not start from the understanding of purpose, will always lead to emptiness and regret in the future. Your purpose is not an act work to be hung on the wall; it is the beat of your heart that you need to live. As your body is built on the constant reception of oxygen (air); your soul is built on the foundation of your purpose. Your mind is wired for your purpose; your will is designed for your purpose; your emotion is put there for your purpose. To some people in your family, office or church, association or community, you are stiff-necked, unyielding, too bold, aggressive, fearless, logical, determined, sacrificial or any other thing; but to your purpose – you are being yourself!
Truly, your purpose is yourself – you cannot deny yourself forever; even so, you cannot deny your purpose forever. Your purpose is the “why” you woke up this morning; the “why” you went through those tough experiences; the “why” you met those people that affected you. Your purpose is the fabricator of your unique value and worth. You are special, peculiar and valuable to the degree of your purpose.
Inside your purpose is your marriage, your fruitfulness, your businesses, your awards, your honour, riches, strength, power, blessing, wisdom and glory. Your purpose is the reason for your importance – it is your best asset that the LORD had given to you for your greatness on earth as His representative among men. Wouldn’t you know your own purpose for living?
