At various times and in various situations, many of us have been confronted with that all important question, "Who Do You Think You Are?" For some of us that did not hear that statement from others, we have asked people that same question, "Who Does He Think He/She is?" While that could come to many of us as insults or attacks; I discovered as the Holy Spirit opened my eyes that the question isn't supposed to be an insult or an attack on anyone's person; rather, a food for thought for anyone who wants to become aware of who he or she is and who he or she must become.
More often, we go about living our lives on assumptions, we follow established routines (irrespective of their sources) and we are committed to our accustomed patterns of living, without necessarily giving SERIOUS thoughts to why we do what we do daily and who we are as individuals, which should normally necessitate what we do as a people.
An ancient king in Israel once wrote, "For as he THINKS in his heart, so is he.." (Proverbs 23:7) What that instructs is the unfolding of a man's actions from the reservoir of his thoughts. Suggesting very strongly that what we do is rooted in what we think, if we think well, we will or can do well. If a man must change his behaviour or actions, he must change his thinking.
Let me quickly share a Bible verse with you before I wrap things up here:
"For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to THINK of HIMSELF more highly than he ought to THINK, but to THINK soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith."
Romans 12:3
You see how the word THINK was used repeatedly in that verse above; indicating the indispensability of human thinking. God created us as humans with thinking faculty or capabilities; however, while our lives could be GREATLY improved by our deliberate THOUGHTS, we could also ruin our lives by deliberate or careless THOUGHTS.
Apostle Paul didn't ask the people to stop THINKING; neither did he stop them from thinking of themselves. What he warned against was anyone over-exalting himself or herself by his or her thoughts. If people think too highly of you, it could still harm you, but it would be slowly; however, if you think highly of yourself more than you really are, then you're destroying yourself very quickly.
If I then ask, "Who Do You Think You Are?", you must be able to answer me as humbly and accurately as possible. Do you know what even make people to think highly of themselves beyond the accurate measure? I believe their refusal to really sit down to think through their lives, reviewing and assessing their strengths, weaknesses and passion; they then push themselves to a point of SELF-DEFENSE, which often produce OVERREACHING self assessment.
Don't wait for people to ask you who you think you are before you start asking questions yourself – seek to find answers from God about yourself; if you can afford it, invest into your Self Awareness, I can testify that you won't be disappointed with the outcome of your life in years to come.
