Introduction
For a short while, I let loose my power (grace) of imagination: For I had a deep desire in me to know what could possibly be the most frustrating, disturbing, embarrassing, discouraging, hurtful and hopeless thing that could ever happen to anyone or any people. After a good thinking time, I became more confused and troubled than before – I just couldn’t get a satisfying response in my mind!
I permitted myself to think of a man whose wife sent packing from home; A woman whose daughter plans a coup against in her own husband’s house; a business owner whose employee sacks from the company; A lover whose love mate cheats on; A wife whose husband is unfaithful and unloving; A farmer, whose farm keeps accepting money, without ever giving back returns to the farmer; A military officer, whose junior ordered to be beaten; and even, a teacher whose students are teaching how to read and write effectively.
Indeed, all these listed above are quite unbelievable experiences of life; too bad to be expected or experienced by anyone. However, they are not as bad compared to what I eventually discovered from the timeless truth of God's word.
Wait a minute! Could you ever imagine yourself, a strong and highly influential leader of the nation or a state; being suddenly removed from office, revoked from exercising authority, yet asked to continue doing the initial duties of a leader. What a conflicting and frustrating judgment! Please, continue to imagine with me. The leadership duties are still preserved, but no more office and no more authority. Help me out please! How will he ever be effective in this leadership? In fact, will his life (no matter how long it is) ever be a fulfilling one? Can you also see the frustration, hopelessness, and discouragement that I noted earlier? May we never share in this kind of humiliating experience. Amen!
The Truth
Could you please let us leave that world of fantasy and simply embrace the truth here! I suppose you said “Amen!” just now? Any way, you actually needed to say amen. But you know! “If wishes were horses, beggars could ride”. Never permit your life to revolve only around wishful thinking and sayings; but rather, move with the ready few to actually do what is necessary (needful) to make life count and really significant.
Really, the distance between your own immediate and future experience, and that of the leader in the introduction, depends on your understanding of certain salient truths and guided by them.
Throne: This implies the office or position of a king and queen.
Authority: This is the power to give orders and make others obey.
Responsibility: This is the state of being responsible. And to be responsible is to have the duty of doing something or caring for something or somebody, so that on may be blamed if something goes wrong.
With the explanations above; I will submit that, a king who is banished, without throne and authority; but yet, with enormous responsibilities, is simply, the king who is sent out of his territory – sphere of influence, without the status or position or rank as king, without power to command obedience from anyone; yet, still expected by the king’s makers to continue to discharge his duties (such as protecting, caring, tending and providing, etc.) to his kingdom.
Now, we shall take this deeper!
If it is easy for you to understand that you and your siblings (number, not too important), are from just two individuals (Dad and Mum); then I think that you wouldn’t struggle too much to know that the whole world (mankind), came from two individuals too (Adam and Eve).
Alright! If what happens to the ruling king while on the throne can affect the destiny of the prince and princess; then, whatever happened to Adam and Eve – the king and queen of the Garden of Eden (Earth), speaks a lot into our destiny, if unattended to. Okay!
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our own image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. So God created man in His own image; in the image of God (King) He created him: male and female He created them
Genesis 1:26-27
That settled the issue of enthronement and authority: For at creation, Adam and Eve had every power and position that could ever be needed to fulfill their destiny.
Then the LORD God took man and put him in the Garden of Eden (the then earth) to tend and keep it”.
Genesis 2:15.
Simply, God revealed to Adam (man) that the throne you are occupying and the authority you possess isn’t just for fun, but for function: For your responsibility to the earth is to tend and to keep it. To tend is to care for something or look after somebody or something. Invariably, God told him, you’re not a spectator on the earth; but an active overseer of the earth. You are to be in charge on earth and maintain orderliness and peaceful coexistence.
And also, you are to keep the earth. Adam, you are not to be wandering, drunk or slumbering around on earth, but to guard and protect it. Ensure that enemies doesn’t strike the earth. You have got all the authority and position you could ever need; now protect this earth and manage it.
However, the enemy attacked when Adam was slumbering, wandering and drunk (perhaps with love) in Genesis 3:1-6, and God’s judgment came upon the first rulers of the earth.
Therefore the LORD God sent him out of the garden of Eden to till the ground (just as written in Genesis 2:5) from which he was taken. So He(God) drove out the man (king)’ and He placed Cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned everyway, to guard the way to the tree of life”.
Genesis 3:23-24
What an unfortunate “malady” that befell the human race. Throne and authority revoked, but responsibilities are enormous.
However, I have this good news to EVERYONE that cares about it. For God in His mercy and love had already packaged the escape route for the entire human race (although, now on an individual basis), the redemption through Jesus Christ; for He is our peace, our righteous King, who has restored our lost THRONE and AUTHORITY.
Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh – who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands – that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus you who were once afar off have been brought near by the blood of Jesus.
Ephesians 2:11-13
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned – (For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him (Jesus) who was to come. But the FREE GIFT is not like the offense. For if by one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the GIFT by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many.”
Romans 5:12-15
