In the word of John C. Maxwell, "Everything rises and falls on leadership." Meaning that the destiny of every people, person or group is at the mercy of the decisions or indecisions of the greatest influence on such people, person or group. Usually, in every society, the most sensitive decisions about the living conditions and the dying circumstances of the people are often made by the smallest most powerful group or party or class of the society.
The point am making is simple – in most cases, it is the few that rule, choose for or determine the experiences of the majority. It is the leadership upon a people that negotiates the living or dying of the people. Hence, everything rises and falls on leadership. Each time the culture of a group need to be changed, a leader is chosen or sought; whenever an organization require to hit the bottom-line, a leader is hired and when any people require to forge a formidable alliance with another group, effective leaders are sought.
Listen To Podcast: LEADERSHIP PROMISE
If you may ask, "How are these sought leaders identified or found?" I think I have an idea; these leaders are found out only by their promises. In a crowded world or group, what separates leaders from other persons is their PROMISE or their PLAN. A man who has no plan can't be trusted; and a man who promises nothing can't guarantee anything. Each time societies are in search for leaders – they always look for men and women of great promises. Theresa May became the Prime Minister of England by her BREXIT promise. Donald Trump became the President of United States of America by his promises of WALL at the Mexican borders and Better Trade Deals against China and Europe.
In short, each person is assessed for leadership responsibility by his or her leadership promise. When a leader promises, the people want to believe he or she has the Character, Competence and Charisma to fulfill the promise. When they are not sure, they withhold their approval of such leaders. The question is, "What is your own leadership promise to your team, family or community? Can you deliver? Would you deliver? How long will it take to deliver on your leadership promise? If you can't deliver, what should be your leadership punishment?"
Since we are continuing the series titles: "Leadership Trip To Genesis TM"; Let us quickly learn about this concept – 'Leadership Promise' from the Book of Genesis.
Then the Lord appeared to him by [a]the terebinth trees of Mamre, as he was sitting in the tent door in the heat of the day. 2 So he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing by him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the ground, 3 and said, “My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass on by Your servant. 4 Please let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree. 5 And I will bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh your hearts. After that you may pass by, inasmuch as you have come to your servant.”
They said, “Do as you have said.”
Genesis 18:1-5
A popular quote says, "Be careful what you wish for, because you might just have it." Abraham set up a great plan to welcome divine visitation in his time or land. He was so glad by the privilege that he began to make promises. The question is, "Why did he make promise?" I believe that he made those promises for the sake of pleasing God and enjoying His favour. As soon as he finished making those promises, he was commanded to do as he had planned.
Do as you have said was the response Abraham received; should you be asked by your team, family, community, church, organization or generation to do as you have planned or promised; what would become of those promises, people or even the organization. Would you follow through on your plans or would you wish you never had the opportunity?
In many countries across the world, quite a number of people are given leadership responsibilities based on their empty promises, visions or plans. They said they would; but nothing is happening under them. If you must affect your team, people or generation properly; you mustn't just be a great visionary; but also a great implementer of plans and strategies.
